Reviews (Newspaper Articles): - 2002
~
Jason Blake, an Eastern Nazarene College graduate
from the class of
2000, does a superb job the soloist in
"Flying Home," the penultimate song. While other
versions of the song
have dealt with a dying character coming to terms with his
death, Ferreira and Blake's version
uses a soldier in the battlefield, a twist on Brown's original
production. Ferreira thought Blake's experience in the army reserve
would add a certain insight into the character. The actor's
background in singing
doesn't hurt either, as Blake does a magnificent job
of bringing out the gospel sounds of the song, demanding the
audience's attention as his arms move with the rhythms of the chorus.
~Brian Eule (Patriot Ledger
- 2002)
~
Most of the songs are savvy new age
anthems like "The River Won't Flow" --- brilliantly executed
by Jason
Blake,
Timothy Semchenko, and the company. Blake also
delivers the showstopper: a soaring
metaphysical ballad called "Flying Home".
